Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about RF antennas, product selection, and technical specifications.
Product Selection
When selecting an RF antenna, consider these key parameters: 1) Operating frequency range (ensure the antenna covers your application band); 2) Gain (affects signal coverage); 3) Polarization (vertical/horizontal/circular); 4) VSWR (< 2:1 is acceptable); 5) Installation environment and size constraints. We recommend providing your specific application scenario for our technical team to recommend the optimal solution.
Base station antennas are typically used for signal towers and base station equipment, featuring high gain, strong directivity, and large coverage area, suitable for fixed-point large-area coverage. Terminal antennas are used for mobile phones, IoT devices, etc., featuring miniaturization, omnidirectional or weak directivity, and lower gain, suitable for mobile terminal devices. Our products cover both categories and can provide corresponding solutions based on your application scenario.
The core technical indicators of 5G antennas include: 1) Frequency range (Sub-6G: 450MHz-6GHz, mmWave: 24GHz-40GHz); 2) Gain (typically 5-20 dBi); 3) Beamwidth (affects coverage); 4) Port isolation (key indicator for MIMO antennas); 5) Power capacity; 6) Intermodulation performance (PIM value); 7) Ingress protection rating (typically IP65/IP67). We provide complete 5G antenna test reports and specifications.
Technical Parameters
VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) is an indicator of the matching degree between the antenna and the transmission line. VSWR = 1:1 means perfect matching. In practical applications: VSWR ≤ 1.5:1 is excellent; VSWR ≤ 2:1 is acceptable; VSWR > 2:1 indicates poor matching, which will cause signal reflection and power loss. Our antenna products typically guarantee VSWR ≤ 1.5:1, and some high-precision products can reach ≤ 1.2:1.
Not necessarily. Higher antenna gain means longer signal propagation distance, but the beamwidth becomes narrower and the coverage angle becomes smaller. The trade-off depends on: 1) Point-to-point communication — higher gain is more advantageous; 2) Large-area coverage — medium gain + omnidirectionality is better; 3) Mobile terminals — excessively high gain may cause signal instability. We recommend selecting appropriate gain based on the specific application scenario, rather than blindly pursuing high gain.
Antenna polarization determines the vibration direction of electromagnetic waves and directly affects communication quality: 1) Vertical polarization — commonly used in traditional communications, with strong anti-interference capability; 2) Horizontal polarization — used in some specific applications; 3) Circular polarization — suitable for scenarios where the orientation of transmitting and receiving ends is uncertain (e.g., satellite communications, RFID); 4) Dual polarization — supports two polarizations simultaneously, increasing channel capacity (basis of MIMO technology). Ensure the polarization of transmitting and receiving antennas are consistent, otherwise severe signal loss will occur.
Application Scenarios
Antenna selection for IoT projects requires consideration of: 1) Communication protocol (LoRa, NB-IoT, WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee correspond to different frequency bands); 2) Device size constraints (wearable devices require miniature antennas); 3) Installation environment (indoor/outdoor, metal environments severely affect antenna performance); 4) Power consumption requirements (active vs passive antennas); 5) Cost budget. We provide a complete IoT antenna selection guide and can recommend suitable antenna models based on your communication module and application scenario.
Outdoor antennas require comprehensive protective design: 1) Waterproof and dustproof — at least IP65 rating, IP67 recommended; 2) Lightning protection — DC grounding, lightning rods, or surge protectors; 3) Weather-resistant materials — radome made of UV-stable ASA/PC materials; 4) Temperature range — typically requires -40°C to +65°C; 5) Wind load resistance — structural design must consider local maximum wind speed. Our outdoor antenna products have passed rigorous reliability tests to ensure long-term stable operation in harsh environments.
